We may have only just waved goodbye to Maker Faire UK 2016, but the preparations are already in full swing for Maker Faire Shenzhen 2016. For those who have never been, Shenzhen is the must-see destination for anyone with an interest in electronics, and the annual Maker Faire is the perfect time to see it.
We're not alone in our love for the region: our Hua Qiang Bei System (HQBS) guide is a popular destination for anyone looking to prepare for a visit, while our friends at Seeed Studio have expressed their love for the area in a way that sums it up perfectly for us. Those interested in making deals for components there can now even go equipped with Andrew 'Bunnie' Huang's sourcing tool book for ease of translation.
Last year's Maker Faire Shenzhen was, admittedly, somewhat hampered by two issues: the location was a little out-of-the-way, and the temperature wasn't conducive to a day of wandering around. Although the official site has yet to be updated, the organisers are hard at work setting up for this year's Maker Faire Shenzhen and have promised to fix both problems with a new location and a shift to October - the time of year when Shenzhen is at its most accommodating weather-wise.
There has never been a time we haven't enjoyed visiting Shenzhen and the electronics oasis of Hua Qiang Bei, and every year it just gets better. The maker movement has exploded over the last few years, and nowhere is that more evident than in Shenzhen where the local community has welcomed the movement with an eagerness not readily seen elsewhere in the world.
As things are finalised, expect to see regular updates on the official website - and if you've never been to Shenzhen, perhaps this should be the year you break that trend.
