The chair is complete. What started this morning as as an idea and progressed through computer drawings, and scale models has this afternoon materialized into an honest to goodness chair. Around oomlout one of our greatest failings seems to be our inability to say no to a new idea. We were sitting around procrastinating (one of our greatest strengths) when it hit us. We're all sitting. The Factors that contributed to what happened next: -We love anything novelty sized (be it a tiny car or a too large can) -The large CNC machine had been lying dormant for a while. -We all felt like doing something other than what we were. Clement came across Riblets great Instructable (How to Build Working Gears From Junkmail). Taking up Riblets challenge and only a few minutes on the laser cutter he soon had a rather fun folding and gluing project. Folding and gluing done, you can see the results, a lovely and fun project. Some of the oomlout staff are members of #VHS (vancouver hacker space). At the Tuesday night meeting a box full of slide potentiometers was found. Stuart grabbed a handful and today with a spare half hour on the laser cutter he whipped up this little box to hold them. Clement is concerned that he currently has nothing to control but this is something Stuart will no doubt manage to fix. Well its another day of product development here at oomlout. Well product development with a healthy dose of procrastination. As part of that procrastination we happened across a talk given by David Rowe (via make). His open telephony project is quite amazing and while no where close to the scale of his efforts we fancy ourselves at least burgeoning "open hardwarists".
